The Best Online Fitness Classes: from yoga to HIIT

Get moving and grooving at home with this roundup of the best online fitness classes available

Coronavirus has closed all of our favorite gyms and yoga studios and has kept us from that unique workout routine that we’ve perfected. But, that doesn’t mean you don’t have access to these workouts anymore!

Now’s the time to be creative with how we take care of our bodies. As a former yoga instructor, fitness is a huge key to my happiness. And that’s not just for me — physical activity is key to maintaining mental health during these weird times.

There are so many online fitness classes and subscription services out there that you’ll never run out of workouts to try. I’ve rounded up some great online fitness classes that you should look into to get some movement in your day.

Peloton

You may know Peloton because of their spin bikes — or their widely debated Christmas commercial — but Peloton is more than just spinning. You don’t need to purchase the Peloton bike or treadmill to gain access to the Peloton app, which includes access to runs, yoga, meditation, stretching, bootcamp, and so much more!

If you're looking for holistic, instructor-led classes, Peloton is a great option. Their 90-day free trial is a steal, and after the free trial, the digital membership is $13 a month for unlimited classes.

Orangetheory

Are you interested in exercises that will really get your heart rate up? Orangetheory is a popular endurance training fitness studio that curates creative gym routines with the added bonus of guidance and inspiration via the instructors.

Orangetheory is now providing daily at-home 30 minute workouts. The best part? No special equipment needed. The instructors show you how to use objects you can find around the house making these workouts accessible and fun so you can make the most of what you have.

Lululemon

In another example of brands that have pivoted on social media during coronavirus, Lululemon is holding free Instagram Live workout sessions. Their weekly schedule features yoga, do-anywhere workouts, meditation, and self-care tips. Kudos to Lululemon for stepping up during this time!

Corepower Yoga

There’s no better time to take on yoga — we need to focus on our breath and come back to center regularly during coronavirus distancing. Corepower is now offering free 30- and 60-minute classes while studios are closed.

Corepower also has Yoga On Demand classes that you can subscribe to for unlimited access to all of the classes. The Yoga On Demand classes feature a variety of class formats and lengths that makes it flexible for any schedule.

Alo Moves

You know I couldn’t do a workout roundup without multiple yoga options! Alo Moves has so many different yoga classes that you can follow along with at home, including classes by my fab mentor Caley Alyssa. They provide a lot of resources for beginners all the way up to advanced yogis in all styles like vinyasa, hatha, ashtanga, kundalini, and more. They also offer breathwork, meditations, inversion drills, core work, HIIT classes, and more. Start with the 14-day free trial and see what you think!

Barry’s Bootcamp

Barry’s Bootcamp is known for their Red Room workouts. But now you can turn your living room into a Red Room! Barry’s is holding the first-ever virtual Red Room classes that will be streamed globally.

The class types include bodyweight, bands, weights and treadmill and weights classes. You can book a class through the website and even use previous class credits. Barry’s is also currently streaming equipment-free workouts on their Instagram live and saving the sessions to their IGTV the next day. These are great quick exercises that are led by energetic instructors.

Blogilates

If YouTube workouts are more your style, Cassey Ho from Blogilates has been creating one-on-one workout videos for years on her YouTube channel! Her workouts feature pilates and strength training but she also has cardio and yoga videos. Cassey also creates monthly workout calendars with diverse workouts to keep you on track.

One of her most recent plans is a 14-day Quarantine Workout Plan that includes a short workout each day targeting different muscle groups that you can do while quarantining. Cassey’s website is full of amazing resources for workouts, meal plans, fun recipes, and more.

Crossfit

We all know Crossfit as the famous HIIT and weightlifting brand, but did you know they have a lot of free workouts on their website? (The more you know!) Crossfitters are usually known for their intensity, but these workouts are beginner-friendly and feature “regular” people demonstrating the workouts using equipment that can be found in any home.

If you don’t see your favorite workout studio on this list, don’t fret! A lot of studios, instructors, subscriptions and brands are offering at-home workouts and free trials for their services during this time. Let me know if you try out any of these online fitness classes — and which one is your favorite!
