How to Lead a Clubhouse Room Like a Boss

Clubhouse is quickly turning into one of the biggest social media platforms for business owners, educators, and people from all industries. It’s a place to connect with the big players in so many fields and can be a smart way to grow your following (aka, potential clients).

Clubhouse can be used as a place to learn directly from big names in your field, but it’s also a great spot to share your ideas, get feedback, and host intentional and honest conversations with those around you. Let’s talk about how to host and be a part of those rooms like a BOSS.

Using + Speaking on Clubhouse 

Currently, Clubhouse is an invite-only app. Once you receive an invite from someone, you’ll have access to everything going on inside the platform. There’s tons of rooms and chats you can check out. You can choose to just listen or you can “raise your hand” and be invited to speak on stage as a panelist. And, of course, you can host a room, too! 

Optimizing your profile is key when you join Clubhouse. Your profile is considered SEO, so make sure you make it clear what you do right away. The first 3 lines are searchable. ;) The same idea applies when you’re invited to the stage. Quickly and succinctly introduce who you are, your title, and who you help. It’s easy to just fall into the trap of listening to all of the conversations and education happening, but make a goal to participate when you feel ready! That’s how you’ll see the biggest return on your time in the app. Many speakers are finding large increases in their following on other social media platforms because Cllubhouse is attached to your Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Hosting on Clubhouse

Hosting a room on Clubhouse is a way to connect with new people while establishing yourself as an expert in your field. Users will be able to search for and find your room. This is a place to talk with your audience candidly. Best practice: gather a few people to co-host with you, and chat about topics that are meaningful to your ideal clients. Don’t host a room solely as a sales pitch. Do host a room to establish credibility. Creating conversations that will allow for interactions with those in your room is KEY on Clubhouse, so perhaps you invite people on stage to pitch their podcast idea if you are a successful podcast host, or you can invite people to share their story if you’re a storytelling expert.

Running an Online Meeting

Whether you’re hosting a room on Clubhouse or managing a Zoom call, take some time to plan ahead. How strictly your schedule will need to be is based on the platform, but at the very least have your talking points laid out. Always introduce yourself at the beginning, and leave space for feedback and questions so you can interact. And please, make sure you consider the length of your presentation. For Clubhouse, aim for 30-60 minutes of content. Energy is everything. Keep your energy high, positive, be respectfully all opinions. Ff you don’t think you can stay engaging as a leader for that long, invite a co-host or three! It’s another great way to build connections and grow your network (remember, strategic partnerships are a fabulous way to grow BOTH of your audiences!). In Clubhouse, ask your audience members to start with “My question is…” and ask them to keep their question to 30 seconds. Setting ground rules will help create a fair playing field and ensure everyone gets a chance to participate and learn.

Tips for Clubhouse Rooms

When you’re in a room on Clubhouse and you’re invited to speak, be prepared to give your elevator pitch: who are you and who do you help? Provide something of value to those listening beyond what you’re saying in that moment. If appropriate, mention your free asset and encourage them to message you so you can provide the link, or if asked, be prepared to confidently talk about your next offer! This platform can be SO powerful if you begin to use it with purpose.

Pro-tip alert: Speak slowly so those in the room can understand and hear you. And, don’t forget to pause so that your hosts can respond or chime in! Just like on Zoom, there can be delays, and the more people on stage in a Clubhouse room, the more potential there is for people to talk over one another. Remember, you know what you’re talking about and everyone is excited to hear you! Take a few deep breaths before you start, and then do your thing!

These online platforms are ALL about creating connections so use it mindfully. Talk about something you’ve always wanted to get in deep with your audience about, or just show up genuinely ready to learn from an expert. You’d be surprised who’s ready to listen and help you. Clubhouse is in the early stages of existence, which means it’s still super exclusive and you’re getting the chance to connect with individuals in your field you might not otherwise. It’s the perfect time to jump in and start working those rooms like the boss you are.
